Rave On With Turbosound & NPG Inc

Turbosound is a leading designer and manufacturer of professional loudspeaker systems – proven by the vast number of endorsements of major international artistes and prestigious permanent installations around the world.
Turbosound’s unique, award winning designs have been developed around unorthodox principles, resulting in a special harmony between high technology in its purest form and a natural approach to the art of acoustical and electronic engineering. Many principle patents have been awarded to Turbosound over the years.

In the concert touring market more than 100,000 TMS series loudspeaker systems were shipped worldwide, practically dominating this sector. Using disciplines learned from the rigors of life on the road, Turbosound established a close association with the early days of the rave movement. During the 80’s the Turbosound brand became a virtual household name within the dance music scene, so much so that flyers and leaflets from the time often quoted a ‘50k Turbo rig’ even if it wasn’t. The reason for its overwhelming popularity was simple: Turbosound proprietary horn-loaded designs reproduced unusual dynamism and transparency in the source material, as well as being low enough in distortion to avoid the fatigue normally associated with long exposure to high sound pressure levels.

The emergence of Turbosound’s evolutionary designs from 1990 onwards –
Flashlight and Floodlight – took the clarity and power of dance systems to a new level.

Comments from ravers and promoters alike proved that Turbosound products educated audiences to the fact that it was now possible to have living room sound in a 50,000 capacity venue. Dance parties became a regular feature, particularly around the New Year. Switzerland hosts a regular techno party which requires sixty Flashlight stacks (enough for a decent sized stadium tour) to provide stunning sound for only 15,000 people. Event promoter the World Dance Organization staged New Year’s Eve raves at London’s Docklands Arena in 1995 and 1996 with Flashlight and Floodlight systems. International DJs such as Carl Cox, Fabio, Grooverider, Danny Rampling, Steve Bicknell, Pete Tong and Boy George have been quick to realize the ability of the loudspeaker system to generate emotion in a crowd.

Early in the decade the British rave scene crossed over into Canada’s alternative music scene, where Total Audio of Quebec were able to provide the Floodlight rigs requested on riders by British DJs. In addition to Floodlight and Flashlight, the HiLight series featuring the THL 2 Short to medium throw mid-high enclosure and the THL4 longer throw, higher output mid-high enclosure with the THL 828 Sub Woofer has also found a home in the rave community. Turbosound’s popularity in the dance market has spread far and wide: from Malta and Spain to Cyprus and Lebanon; in the Mid West of the US to Florida. From Moscow to Malaysia, Turbosound Floodlight systems are installed in some of the world’s largest nightclubs. And in the UK, the Dance Tent at the Glastonbury Festival is always an all-Turbosound affair.

Based in the heart of the English countryside, Turbosound employs a highly skilled, motivated workforce using modern manufacturing techniques. All components – most of which are designed and manufactured exclusively for Turbosound – are individually tested prior to assembly. As well as having to pass a comprehensive computerized test, each completed product is listened to by a trained technician.

Combine all of this with the close attention to detail in every aspect of the design – from robust precision-built enclosures that optimize natural acoustic performance, to the certified, easily assembled flying systems – and the result is that Turbosound enjoys an unrivalled world-wide reputation for reliability, innovation and quality. The endorsement of public, artistes, DJs and promoters can certainly tell a story. However, when don’t take their word for it, we encourage you to contact our Prairie Region office in Calgary Alberta and hear the difference Turbosound makes.
